Organizing Your Home
Closets: The Land of Chaos
When was the last time you saw the bottom of your closet? Do you actually know what the color of the carpet is in there? Trust me, I know the feeling. The chaos makes you feel that the case is hopeless, that you will never be able to get everything put up and out of the way. So many times we just quit, letting the stuff and the clothes continue piling up until we do some spring cleaning. Despite the frustration, you have options. The manufacturers of tools for closest organization have created cost-effective, attractive, and sensible options for the everyday consumer.
Many people had their first experience with closet organization when they saw one of the costly closet carousel systems. The systems are fairly expensive and bulky, so for most people this is not a feasible option. Others have added extra wire shelves to their closets for extra organization, but despite the low price, these shelves are notoriously unreliable and small items tend to fall through the cracks.
If you’re building a house or planning on staying in the same place for a while, a larger closet organization system may meet your needs more effectively. ClosetMaid and similar companies offer complete systems to meet your every need. Less expensive versions may consist of stronger wire shelves and racks. You can measure your closet and find a system that fills the closet providing all the storage you need. More upscale alternatives are made entirely of wood and many have drawer systems that add to the functionality of your closet. However, these large systems, often used in walk-in closets, are very expensive. If your budget is limited, you may want to consider other alternatives.
Perhaps you’re not interested in any of these options; then, you have the possibility of creating your own system. Using shelves that you can buy or have specially made at the hardware store along with a chest of drawers or wicker drawers, you can create your own specially designed closet that meets your needs perfectly. Using baskets or filing cabinets can be an inexpensive way of creating a great look and getting your closet under control. If you are organizing a child’s closet, you may want to consider plastic storage bins in different colors to organize their clothes and toys. The plastic is easy to clean and is much safer if your child tumbles and bumps his or her head.
Closet organization tools may seem like a waste of money to some, but if you don’t get your closet under control, then it is likely to seep into the rest of your life. Finding clothes in the morning doesn’t have to be the equivalent of wandering through a dark jungle never knowing what you’ll step on next; rather, take the initiative and clear out the closet, leaving a path from a clean closet into an organized and productive day.
